In 1695, Swift became an Anglican priest, but he kept on writing under Temple’s influence. After Temple’s death he ministered in a monastery right outside of Dublin and in 1713, he became the dean of St.Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin. He kept writing all sorts of works throughout his lifetime and went back and forth between London and Dublin. Sadly, he passed away in 1745.

INFLUENCE OF SIR WILLIAM TEMPLE

Once in England, he got employed by Sir William Temple at Surrey’s Moor Park. There, he helped Temple with his essays, memoirs and political pamphlets. Swift’s interest in society, politics and literature emerged during his time with Temple.

Jonathan Swift was born on November 30th, 1667 in Dublin, Ireland. His father died when he was still very young. His mother struggled economically, she was forced to turn to her brother Godwin Swift, to take care of young Jonathan. Godwin enrolled him in the best Irish private school. Jonathan experienced a radical switch from poverty to wealth, which would then inspire his life’s works. He began his studies at a very Early age, at Trinity College, however he had to interrupt his studies due the outbreak of the Glorious Revolution in 1688, which featured the overthrow of King James II, the king of England and Ireland, this tumultuous time caused Swift to move to England.
